I am alive! Status of this blog

I’ve done a lot of thinking about this blog and the direction I want to take it. Here’s what’s going on …

My goal originally for this blog was to build it up. I wanted to release new design related articles weekly and get tons of Twitter and RSS subscribers. I thought my problem would be coming up with ideas for things to write about. That ended up not being the case. I think finding the time ended up being the difficult part. I have a full time day job and sitting down and write, edit, prepare images, etc. every week became a chore rather than being fun. I once said that there can never be too many design blogs…well…I still like subscribing to new blogs, but there are some that are really good, and others just seem to be recycling the same stuff over and over again.

I’ve decided to redesign this blog, simplify it. It’s going to still be a “design” blog, but its going to be a more personal blog for me rather than a lame attempt to make it a mainstream blog. This way I can post whatever I want, whenever I want and not worry about my audience. Not really sure when the redesign will happen. I think about it all the time, so one of these days I’ll have some extra time to start wireframing.

I’m also really really tired of SPAM comments. I delete emails daily informing me of new comments, but they are almost always spam. I think I might just turn commenting off completely. If someone wants to comment on something I write they can email me.

I still update Wireframe Showcase twice a week! smile

Ever since I’ve started using an RSS reader, I could care less how often a blog updates. In fact, I would prefer far more infrequent updates if that means better content. I get tired of skipping over all the posts that are just collections of someone else’s work (“50 Best jQuery Tutorials!”).

I have my own blog that I always dream of turning “mainstream” as you say, but it is definitely hard to find the time to post constantly; and no matter how much I try, its hard to stay focused on web development when that’s what I spend all day at work doing. I’d much rather come home and write about video games or movies or cars.

So keep up the mantra of quality over quantity and just write what you like to write. You’ll find an audience with whatever that is.

Thanks Simpixelated. Thats pretty much how i feel. I work full time sitting on a computer and when I get home I usually don’t feel like doing more of the same. It’s not that I’m not passionate about design, I am, but I can only take so much in a day, haha.

Your alive!

Can’t wait to see your new blog! I agree, there is too many “trying to become mainstream” blogs out there, all fighting for attention! So I think it will be a nice thing to turn TDP personal.

Are you keeping on the EE platform? As have you considered Tumblr? Self hosted! As I’m going to start a blog of my own but I can’t decide on a platform?!
